Center for Transportation Computational Mechanics

Student workers at the Center for Computational Mechanics

Researchers in this Federal Highway Administration-designated center headquartered at the RELLIS Campus use state-of-the-art analytical tools to accurately model crash tests on dedicated high-speed computers. These techniques enable researchers to design better, most cost-effective safety hardware at a lower cost to research sponsors by predicting how vehicles and safety devices will perform in collisions. The […]

Connected Work Zone

Semi-truck passing by bluetooth sensor on I-35

TTI is deploying CV technology along the I-35 corridor to improve safety and mobility through work zones by providing in-vehicle devices to freight companies to receive work zone infrastructure data on lane closure location, capacity reduction, queue lengths and delay to assist in pre-trip and en-route planning for logistics.

Driving Simulation Laboratory

TTI's driving simulator

The TTI Center for Transportation Safety is home to a Realtime Technologies, Inc. (RTI) driving simulator that provides measurements of drivers’ responses to roadway situations, in-vehicle technologies, and driving-related tasks. RTI’s SimCreator® and SimVista® software tools provide a library of different roadway cross-sections and interchanges, as well as a variety of roadway objects, buildings, and ambient traffic. […]

Eye Tracking Systems

TTI's eye-tracking software installed inside vehicle.

Fovio Eye Tracking System TTI uses the Fovio eye tracking and driver monitoring system for on-road and closed-course studies. This low-profile enclosed system mounts inconspicuously on the dashboard. It offers fast calibration for research subjects and improved eye tracking for nighttime studies. FaceLAB® Eye Tracking System FaceLAB® employs two dashboard cameras and an infrared emitter […]

Infrastructure Protection Program

Researchers in the Infrastructure Protection Program work closely with public- and private-sector sponsors on the development, construction, testing, and evaluation of highway safety appurtenances and perimeter security devices. The staff of the Infrastructure Protection Program is recognized as leaders in the development and testing of both highway safety and anti-terrorist/anti-ram structures. Their experience related to […]

Instrumented Vehicle

TTI's instrumented vehicle.

Function The Texas A&M Transportation Institute’s (TTI’s) instrumented vehicles allow researchers to conduct driver behavior research in test track and on-road environments. The vehicles are equipped with vehicle acquisition data systems and other portable systems that allow TTI research staff to evaluate driver response and performance to a variety of on-road devices and in-vehicle technologies. […]

Proving Grounds Research Facility

Crash test at TTI's Proving Grounds

More than… 50 years of safety research. 4,000 full-scale crash tests. 40 tons of truck brought to a screeching halt. Research performed at the Texas A&M Transportation Institute’s Proving Ground has saved lives for more than 50 years. The TTI Proving Grounds has long been a place where TTI has conducted world-class research, technology development […]

Transit, Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Test Bed

Pedestrian avoidance system installed on a Texas A&M transit bus

TTI developed a concept of operations plan for designing, testing, piloting, demonstrating and deploying CAV technology hardware and applications to reduce and eliminate crashes involving transit, bicyclists and pedestrians. A pilot test was also conducted of the Mobileye Shield + collision avoidance system on a Texas A&M University bus in Phase I of the project. […]
